Our obsession

Hey all! Wow, almost forgot to do my Monday blog...ooops!

It's be a busy and tiring week. As some of you may know, raising a young puppy is NOT easy work and we are learning that really fast :) We had a few sleepless nights last week but now that everyone is more adjusted and on a schedule, things are getting much easier. The potty training is going well, as long as we keep and eye on her and let her out when shes up and around, we have no accidents! Still struggling with her crate training. She loves to hang out in it but once the door is closed she whines, ooooh Layla. We were able to leave the apartment for 20 min yesterday without coming back to a mess! I'm spending most my day at home with her for now, and getting errands done once Andy is home :)
She's gettin' bigger already! She'll be 50lbs in no time!

It's funny how once we got a dog, we've really settled into a routine. While she's a puppy, we don't have as much freedom as usual. It's kinda a bummer but we'll get back to going out and doing fun things once she's a big girl :) We obviously love Layla to death, but having her has definitely helped us confirm our plans to WAIT to have babies for many many years ;) I still want to enjoy being young and newly married for awhile before kiddies arrive.

On another exciting note, I start classes this week! I am now an ASU Sun Devil! I'm able to complete what's left of my degree online and still get a real ASU degree, how lucky is that?! Their online classes move fast, only 7 weeks per term so I'm only taking 2 classes as to not get totally overwhelmed. I've already connected with 3 other women who are taking one of my classes and live here in San Diego, study buddies! And since I'll be at home with the pup, it's a perfect time to be doing school :) I'm actually very very excited to keep learning and just get my degree already, better late than never!

I'm sorry this has been such a "dog" dominated post, but seriously we are obsessed with her! I'll try and have a more exciting post next time :) HAVE A JOYOUS WEEK EVERYONE!

P.S. Andy is trying to teach me to play chess. Haven't won a game yet and I keep telling myself I'll eventually get the strategy and win for once!

Puppy Love

Happy Monday and Presidents day everyone! Hope a few of you get to enjoy today off of school/work (Andy is home today)We have had quite the past week! Andy was pretty sick last week, but is better now! Valentines day was low key which was just fine :) Unfortunately I woke up yesterday morning with what he had the past week, so I'm sick as a dog now. Which is a bummer because we missed out on a private rooftop black tie themed party last night hosted by a nice navy couple who also lives in our building :(

I also my have a possible volunteer/job opportunity! There is a gay rights group that is always outside Target whenever I go, and they are currently raising money and awareness to try and get the history of the gay rights movement into school teachings. They also do marriage equality work as well. I always get into wonderful conversations with them and offered to do some administrative volunteer work in their offices! The woman I talked with even said she is going to look into seeing if she can make it a paying job :) I should be hearing from them this week! In other news, I'm currently awaiting acceptance into Arizona State University! My application is in review and I would hopefully start classes Feb 29! I would be able to finish my degree all with online classes too! I may be doing college a little slower and different than the average person but I am really excited to hopefully finish my degree with ASU :)

But the most exciting news of the past week....our new puppy, Layla (after the Eric Clapton song of course)!! We saw her at an adoption fair outside Petco on Saturday and just couldn't resist. She is a rescused dog from Baja, aka Mexico. She was at the fair with her sister and mom. Her mom is a nice medium sized dog which is perfect for us! She is 11 weeks and they thought she was a beagle mix. We personally don't see much beagle, she's just a nice mixed mutt :) she's a complete sweetheart and so calm. She spends about 90% of her day passed out on the couch. She is doing fairly well potty training too (except for her 3 accidents inside today). Crate training her will definitely be a job too haha. Here are some pictures of our sweetie pie:
Sleepin' on her daddy!
Little rascal loves to steal your spot when you move even an inch forward!
We love her already and are hoping for a smooth and easy training process (one can only hope!). This is Andy's first dog so he is so happy to have her with us! Hope you all have a fast and wonderful week, we are almost into March, can you believe it?!

Birthday Weekend!

Happy Monday and Happy early Valentines Day to you all!

I had a good birthday weekend, didn't turn out exactly as planned but it was still a great weekend. Thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes as well, they all made me smile :) As I had mentioned before, my Dad was in town this weekend. A few things came up and plans changed a bit but I was still able to see him a few times which was so nice. Last week was a long and stressful week so Friday night was spent relaxing at home (and going to buy Breaking Dawn at midnight!). Saturday morning we went to Corondao with my dad to look at a house that my grandparents will be renting for a week next month (SO EXCITED for them to be here!). Andy was/still is sick so Saturday was another low key day...but I did make myself a birthday cake haha! :)
I know it looks like a child's cake but it's soooooo good!
As I'm sure most of you know, Andy wasn't able to be home to celebrate my birthday last year so he forced me into taking a celebratory shot at midnight...yuck. Sunday morning we had an AMAZING birthday breakfast at Cafe 222 with my dad. If you are EVER in the San Diego area, you have got to try the food. I had their PB and banana stuffed french toast which was featured on the Food Network's "best thing I ever ate." The afternoon was spent skyping with family and going to look at cutie pie doggies at some shelters. For dinner we went to Benihana, my fav restaurant, such good food there.
Of course being the yogi I am, I made Andy get his drink in a Buddha cup :)
They forced us to take a "birthday picture" hahaha
This week I plan on focusing more on the job hunt, at this point we only have about 4 months left here so it's getting harder and harder to find a job. I did take some time this morning to get a heavenly massage (thanks to my in-laws for the giftcard!). It was the best massage I have ever had, and an amazing spa all together. If you ever need to relax in San Diego, go to Spa Velia!!

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Valentine's day tomorrow. Make sure to to surround yourself with people you love (family, friends, pets, spouses) and take some time to do something you love as well. I am so beyond grateful that I get to spend V-day with my hubby this year, just another reminder of how lucky I am to have him with me in the US and not overseas :) We don't have any big plans, just a nice homemade dinner and time spent together!

Have a splendid week everyone!

Weekend Recap

Hello! Hope you all had a good weekend and are ready to take on the week!

As I had mentioned before, my in-laws paid us a visit this weekend! We had a great time showing them all around downtown and the harbor. We also spent all day Saturday at the San Diego Zoo which was fun since I hadn't been there since elementary school! We also had a chance to take them to one of the beaches and take a nice long walk. My awesome mother in-law also taught me how to make one of Andy's favorite dishes, a Lebanese recipe of hers! Can't wait to try it on my own!

In other news, we've been talking about maybe getting a puppy. Originally we were going to wait until we move in June but Andy's life dream is to own a dog (he has never had any pets besides hamsters) and it's so hard to turn  him down when he wants one so badly! We've looked around a little at some options but I believe we will find the perfect dog when it's meant to be, whether that's now or in 6 months!
We were looking at this cutie pie until we learned how badly huskies shed, which is bad for my allergies :(
As for this week, nothing too exciting planned. I may once again go out and try applying to jobs at MORE places. As my Dad will be here this weekend for a short visit, just Friday night to Sunday afternoon but it'll be nice to see him! Especially with my birthday on Sunday, it'll be nice to have a family member here for part of it!

Something did pop into my mind the other night, we've been married just over FOUR MONTHS already! Gosh it seems like yesterday I was walkin' down the aisle, so crazy. But I am so excited to see what the rest of this first year of marriage has in store for us! :)

Hope you all have a wonderful and productive week! Also, if you are in the Twin Cities/Minnesota area and need flowers for Valentines day...head over to Lexington Floral! I worked there for a long time and can tell you that's the best place to go for V-day flowers! http://www.lexingtonfloral.com/
